Electronic Games Now Availabel on Site
In this sense, the new addition is simply the next logical step in the development of the facility as a successful business. The new gaming venue was hosted by the ground floor of the existing building which is already home of the poker club. The ultimate goal for this gaming floor is to simply bring more to the players that are already interested in poker but also excited to try their luck with more games.
More than 300 electronic gaming machines are sprinkled across the ground floor, providing all visitors with the chance to enjoy their premium games with all bells and whistles fitting well into the image of a gaming venue. However, what many people found uncharacteristic for a casino venue launch was the way it was done. There was no grand ceremony with a ribbon cutting, as the venue is referred to as an electronic game space welcoming players.
ICYMI – As you may have heard by now, our new electronic gaming space is open to the public. But with that being said; Playground is Still About Poker.

The location strives to maintain the focus on poker and makes it clear that this is the primary purpose of Playground Poker. Electronic games on the gaming floor are simply an addition to existing offerings. Players could access the area by entering the Poker Tournament Hall first.
In response to this launch, the Union of Bar Tenants stated that the gaming venue operation is illegal, as it is in direct breach with the existing Canadian Criminal Code. Development on this subject could be witnessed in the foreseeable future.

Apart from providing players with the chance to win big and claim fair cash payouts both related to poker and electronic gaming devices, the gaming facility management is also willing to support the local community. It was recently confirmed that the gaming venue management has reached an agreement with the Kahnawake Mohawk Band which is going to provide the tribal community with a financial boost.
According to the arrangement, over the span of three years the gaming venue operation will guarantee CA$3 million in total in allocation to the Kahnawake Band. It is going to be a mutually beneficial collaboration, as members of the tribe will be hired as part of Playground Poker’s staff providing them with a steady income and permanent work.
The Kahnawake Gaming Commission is a gaming regulatory body that licenses and regulates a large number of online casinos, online poker rooms and online sportsbook sites, as well as three land-based poker rooms that are situated within the Mohawk Territory of Kahnawake.[1]
The Commission was first established in 1996 pursuant to the Kahnawake Gaming Law[2] enacted by the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake. The Commission's Regulations concerning Interactive Gaming[3] were first enacted in July, 1999.
The permits issued by the Commission to online gambling[4] operators are called Client Provider Authorizations.[5] The Commission charges an initial application fee for a Client Provider Authorization of US$25,000, plus an application fee of US$5,000 for each Key Person Licence. Application fees include the cost of the first annual fee for both Client Provider Authorizations and Key Person Licences and are refundable if an application is not granted.[6]
Legality[edit]
The Mohawk Council of Kahnawake and the Commission have consistently asserted that the jurisdiction to enact the Kahnawake Gaming Law is an aspect of Kahnawake's Mohawk or 'aboriginal rights' that have existed since time immemorial and that were most recently recognized and affirmed in subsection 35(1) of Canada's Constitution Act, 1982. Since it was first established in 1996, the legality of the Kahnawake Gaming Law and the activities of the Commission have never been challenged under the laws of Canada or any other jurisdiction.[7]
In July, 2007, in a case that raised a challenge to a decision of the Commission refusing the issuance of a permit, the Quebec Superior Court decided in favour of the Commission.[8] However, because the court ruled against the plaintiff it stated that 'the Court does not consider it necessary to rule on the validity ... of the gaming law'.
Regulatory activity[edit]
Presently, the Commission licences over 50 online gaming operators,[9] representing an estimated 250 online gaming sites.
In September 2009, following a lengthy investigation, the Commission issued its decision[10] in what has become known as the Ultimate Bet cheating scandal.[11] The Commission's decision affirmed that cheating had occurred on the Ultimate Bet poker site and imposed a number of sanctions on Ultimate Bet's ownership, Tokwiro Enterprises, including: a direction that approximately US$22,000,000 be refunded to Ultimate Bet players, a fine in the amount of US$1,500,000 and a direction that Ultimate Bet modify its operations in numerous specific ways to ensure there would be no further incidences of cheating.
In September 2016, the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement announced that it had reached an understanding with the Kahnawake Gaming Commission wherein the KGC would no longer provide licenses to gambling operators who accept customers from the United States of America.[12]
